What is a Dohar Blanket?
What is a Dohar Blanket?
Dohar blankets are traditional Indian summer blankets, crafted from 3 layers of superior quality, super soft, finely woven cotton.
Dohars were very popular with Indian Royalty and kept the Maharajas cool in the monsoons as in those times air-conditioning wasn’t available.
These versatile lightweight coverlets are virtually unknown to the Western world.
With Global warming and our summers getting hotter we can all benefit by having a Dohar on our beds.
Dohars are the best sheets to keep you cool at night. The layers trap cool air and keep your body temperature more comfortable.
How is the Dohar blanket made?Three layers of cotton voile are sewn together with an edging normally in a contrasting colour.
Traditionally the middle layer is block printed and the design is visible subtly through the outer layer.
Our cotton is sustainably produced, and hand block printed by artisans in Jaipur in exclusive design using gentle dyes.
We have 3 exclusive prints; the Jay Feather, Tulips and Camellia, the edgings are available in ochre and black and white stripey block printed fabric. Have a look at our collections here;
