What is the difference between a Dohar and a quilt?

DOHAR VERSUS QUILT, WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE? Do they complement each other?

As the temperatures start to drop and autumn has arrived, our thoughts turn to snuggle up in a cosy bed, with a good book or a cup of cocoa.

Putting together a beautiful bedroom look can be overwhelming, and expensive. But by adding a few carefully chosen bedding items you can easily achieve a gorgeously dressed bed. Of course, choosing between the options is the first hurdle: quilt, dohar, or both.

DOHARS

a pile of cotton dohars

A dohar is a light covering that is traditionally made up of three layers of cotton muslin stitched together. It is a soft coverlet that is naturally temperature regulating and hypoallergenic. Traditionally, the dohar has been a summer blanket. It is ideal for when you need a little more than a cotton sheet to keep you warm. Our Dohars are breathable and absorbent and help regulate your body temperature giving you a restful night sleep.View our collection here

QUILTS

Thicker than a dohar, our quilts are crafted of a luxuriously soft natural cotton voile exterior with natural cotton filling. The additional loft (thickness) of the filling adds an extra weight level of insulation. Hand-quilted and block-printed with a reversible design, and stitched or quilted to secure the filling and ensure that it is evenly distributed. They are intended to be the top layer, sitting on top of sheets, but again, those who want to create a layered look may choose to layer over a matching, or contrasting Dohar. Temperature

The most important factor in choosing a covering is the warmth it provides. Quilts are best suited for colder weather as they provide the best heat insulation. Lighter blankets and quilts might need to be layered in colder climates but are perfect for moderate winters. The lightest, dohars can be used in the warmer months for those who like a covering but to stay cool enough to enjoy a restful night.

LAYERING

We recommend using a layering technique with your bedding during autumn so you can easily and quickly adjust your layers to keep you feeling comfortable and relaxed in bed. (Just as we layer thin natural fibres together when we go skiing, adapting this practice with your autumnal and winter bedding ensures the perfect nights sleep without any hassle.)

To add more options and give a cosy but coordinated bedroom look consider one of our “Comfy- bed Bundles”. Take a look at the options here  These give you options for temperature fluctuations to help you stay comfortable and relaxed in bed. Our Comfy-bed Bundle includes a queen-size Dohar, a handstitched quilt and two matching quilted cushions to finish the look and dress your bedroom beautifully.
