Must-Have Trends For 2023
What is the One Piece You Will Be Buying in 2023?
Every year brings its own unique styles, and 2023 is no different. As we move forwards into Summer, there’s no better time to look at the must-have trends for this year.
Taking Inspiration From Nature
Nature-inspired designs, textures, and colours are leading the way in 2023. Calming natural shades paired with organic shapes, greenery, and raw materials are proving to be especially popular this year as we look for greater simplicity in our homes.
Bringing the outdoors indoors has been a growing design movement over the past decade, and this year, it looks set to expand even further, not only focusing on florals and earthy tones, but also on prints that take their inspiration from the natural world. Mushroom prints are becoming especially prevalent, and are popping up everywhere on towels, cushion covers, and bedding.
These nature-inspired looks help us to feel more grounded and in tune with the world around us as we return to the new normal post-COVID
A Retro Return
2023 has been predicted as the year when the 1970s returns with a vengeance. Retro and vintage items, as well as furnishings and textiles that replicate the era’s key styles and colour palettes, will be appearing in homes nationwide.
This is a returning trend that Shades of Cool London’s Angel Skillman is delighted to see:
“I am totally going to embrace the ‘back to the 70’s trend’ predicted for 2023.” She says. “I lived in the 70’s the first time around and I am so happy to revisit it. I love the idea of vintage finds and repurposing items. I also adore the colour scheme of using added touches of warm brown, gold, and red tones such as clay, honey or paprika to your interior to add more atmosphere to your home.”
2023 will also see a return to simpler styling in the home, especially in the bedroom, where a more minimalistic approach looks set to emerge, another trend that Angel can’t wait to embrace:
“I am ditching the trend of overlayered, overdressed beds with multiple pillows, blankets and throws. I love a more thoughtful, minimal, beautifully draped bed with lush soft, tactile, breathable materials creating the perfect conditions to enhance peaceful sleep. Think less is more… Sleep is so important, so we need effective bedding to create the ideal situation to rest and restore with effortless elegance.”
Sustainability To The Fore
As we progress through the 2020s, we’re beginning to realise the importance of sustainability in every aspect of our lives, including interior design. This year, we’re likely to see moves towards the incorporation of more sustainably produced products in our homes in the UK that are made organically and ethically. Handmade textiles such as traditional Indian Dohar blankets fit perfectly into this growing trend as they minimise waste while preserving ancient skills and techniques for a new generation.
Emphasising Wellness
Another 2023 interior design trend focuses on wellness. Adding elements within the home to promote well-being and self-care will transform spaces into a calming oasis of tranquillity without compromising on beauty or style. Pillows shams, blankets, and quilts all have a part to play in turning any room into a welcoming sanctuary while also incorporating luxurious touches.
Angel predicts that Shades of Cool London’s Sleep Dohar will be “the most sought-after item of the year, and a must-have for anyone valuing their sleep hygiene, comfort and looking to refresh their bedding this Spring/Summer 2023.”
The Dohar is a unique, three-layered soft cotton blanket that was originally designed to keep the Indian Royalty cool during the monsoon season. Now, these blankets are exclusively available in the and have been redesigned in beautifully whisper-soft tones that not only complement the style of Western bedroom interiors, but that also tap into 2023’s nature-inspired looks.
Dohars represent a brand-new way to layer bedding to stay cool in the summer, yet also wonderfully snug. They can also be used in combination with blankets and quilts to mix and match to suit the weather, and as they are naturally hypoallergenic, temperature-regulating, moisture-wicking, and breathable, they fit perfectly with this year’s wellness interior trend.
